Thanks for contacting the Library.  You asked, "How do I move my references from Endnote to Zotero?"

In EndNote,

  1. Display a group of references you wish to export.  You may export your whole EndNote library at once, or, if you references organized in groups, one group at a time.

  2. Use the "Edit" menu to pick "Select all"

  3. Use the "File" menu to select "Export"

  4. Give the exported file a name and location you will remember.  Select "RefMan (RIS) export" as the output style (you may need to start by selecting the "Select other style" option to add the "RefMan (RIS) Export" style to your "Output style" menu.  The file should be saved as plain text.  (If you are asked about encoding, choose UTF-8.  You probably will not be asked.)

In Zotero,

  1. Use the "File" menu to select the "Import" option.

  2. Click the "Continue" button in the "Import" dialog box.

  3. Use the "Finder" box that appears to find, select, and 'open' your file.

  4. Click the "Continue" button on the "Options" page (the default options are usually best).

  5. The Import will proceed.

  6. After importing all EndNote group export files, click on the "Duplicate Items" option in the navigation column on the left.

  7. Select the first duplicate pair, and click the "Merge..."  button.

  8. If you imported the two records in separate groups, the single merged record will still be represented in both groups (called "collections" in Zotero).
